"evenly divides" just means that the remainder = 0....

"evenly divides" just means that the remainder = 0....
This is correct. Another way you can express the idea is that if x evenly divides y, then x is a factor of y and y is a multiple of x; similarly, y/x is an integer. Sometimes we also say that "x goes into y".

"x evenly divides y" does NOT mean that y/x is even.

K can be defnitely be negative or positive.

K is positive when both a and b are positive or when both a and b are negative.

K is negative when either of a or b is negative.

Consider a =-10 and b=2

-10/2=-5 leaving remainder 0 and k=-5.

Just to add ... Do we also consider y=0 also as a soln to: x evenly divides y????
