Source: — Sentence Correction |

In this question, 'a situation' is modifying the fact that American brands are barely visible in the furniture industry in Europe and this has led to frustration for the executives.

Option A - correct
The modifier 'a situation' modifies the previous clause correctly. It also makes use of the correct tense of verb to modify.

Option B - incorrect
This option separates the modifier 'a situation' from the clause; it is supposed to be modified by a semicolon. Also, it uses the wrong tense of the verb "becomes" which makes it seem as if the frustration keeps occurring when it just happened once.

Option C - incorrect
This is wrong because the two -ing verbs in the sentence perform different functions. The first one, which is "frustrating" could properly serve the purpose of a participal modifier at the end of the sentence, but the "is" before "becoming" means that "becoming" is used as a verb and not as a participle description. This reason rules out this answer choice!

Option D - incorrect
The lack of the word "and" in-between the word "executives" and "trade" set up a three-part list, which then fails because the third-term is not a noun, but rather a verb "is becoming." All these issues cause an illogical means to concur.

Option E - incorrect
The use of "which" to introduce the modifier is wrong. When relative pronouns are used, the modifier must come immediately after it but in this case, "EUROPE" is not the modified word. Therefore, it os wrong.
