Before I start with my applications I would like to get your insight on my profile and if my school choices are within range.
GMAT: 710 (Q:48 V:38)
GPA: 3.069 Mechanical Engineer, Top 50 State School
WE: 36 As a Mechanical Engineer at a Fortune 500 Company
Age: 25 at Mat. Male
Nationality: US Citizen, Born and Raised in NY (of Indian Descent)
Since August 2011 I have been working as a Mechanical Engineer at a Fortune 500 Company. With various roles ranging from design engineer lead, process engineer, procurement management and project management. I have been working for roughly 2 years (will be 3 at desired matriculation date of next year). My role was to be basically an engineering consultant that works throughout all of our business division and included extensive domestic travel.
My overall GPA was a 3.069, although there is a notable upswing in GPA from the first two year (2.7) to the last 2 years (3.5). I like to see this split as a maturity change. I have my BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from a top 50 State School
Although I am of Indian descent, I was born and raised in upstate New York.
I did some volunteer work in college (Community Chair for my Professional Engineering Fraternity) and a lot in High school. Due to my work travel schedule I have not been able to get involved with many volunteer roles since I began my fulltime job.
As for extracurricular activities, I am a huge fan of fitness. I do a lot of road biking and smaller 5-10K foot races. I train people at the YMCA on fitness, diet and overall health (although since I am not a certified trainer, I don't consider this an official status, just an extreme passion I have). I am also involved in my companies Professional Network that includes outside work activities to maintain a work life balance

My post MBA goal is to go into Finance/consulting. I basically work as an engineering consultant now and do a lot with cost savings, efficiency improvements, and project management and I would love to take this consulting to a higher level where I am part of larger, higher impact decisions. I have also been a fan of finance and how the world economy works since high school. My dream has always been to get involved with the business side of things. I became an engineer to have a solid background of quantitative, analytical, and problem solving skills. I am looking for a career change from Engineering to the Corporate World, which is the main reason for pursuing an MBA.
My Top School Choices are:
1) Wharton
2) Booth
3) Kellogg
4) Fuqua
5) Cornell
6) McCombs
7) Emory
8) Kelley
My questions are:
1) Are my school selecions in line with my profile? If not, do you have any suggestions?
2) Although I am a US citizen, will I be put into the Male Indian Engineer cluster?
3) Are there any good resources for MBA applications? BeattheGmat had excellent resources for the GMAT, but now that my GMAT obsession is over I figured I should start working on the essays!
