The Sri-NuanSri-Nuan dance and Teut-Teung dance are an inherent part of Thai culture, and along with others such as The Farmer's Dance, developed by the Ministry of agriculture, constitutes the main dramatic art form of Thailand.

(1) The Sri-NuanSri-Nuan dance and Teut-Teung dance are an inherent part of Thai culture, and along with others such as The Farmer's Dance, developed by the Ministry of agriculture, constitutes the main dramatic art form of Thailand

(2) The Sri-NuanSri-Nuan dance as well as Teut-Teung dance are an inherent part of Thai culture, and along with others such as The Farmer's Dance, developed by the Ministry of agriculture, constitute the main dramatic art form of Thailand

(3) The Sri-NuanSri-Nuan dance and Teut-Teung dance are an inherent part of Thai culture, and along with The Farmer's Dance, developed by the Ministry of agriculture, constitute the main dramatic art form of Thailand

(4) An inherent part of Thai culture, the Sri-NuanSri-Nuan, Teut-Teung as well as other dances such as The Farmer's Dance, developed by the Ministry of agriculture, constitute the main Thai dramatic art form

(5) The Sri-NuanSri-Nuan and Teut-Teung dances, both inherent parts of Thai culture, and a dance developed by the Ministry of Agriculture named The Farmer's Dance, constitute, along with others, the main dramatic art form of Thailand

I think its 3

the sentence is attempting to disguise the subject verb agreement issue.

(3) The Sri-NuanSri-Nuan dance and Teut-Teung dance are an inherent part of Thai culture, and along with The Farmer's Dance, developed by the Ministry of agriculture, constitute the main dramatic art form of Thailand

In this sentence Sri-NuanSri-Nuan dance and Teut-Teung dance form a plural subject. That plural subject needs a plural verb (constitute. They throw the stuff in between in there to confuse you.

I picked 3 and I was wrong.

What reason does it give for 3 being wrong?

Well, they didn't explain their answers, that's the reason I am posting them here.

The only other answer I can see is 4, but I really want to hear an explanation for this, because I see nothing wrong with option 3.

I think it should be 2.
1) Incorrect subject/verb agreement
2) Correct
3) Changes the meaning of the sentence by omitting "other dances"
4) Misplaced modifier, doesn't correctly modify the two dances.
5) Wordy, also changes the meaning of the sentence.

2 is incorrect in my opinion. In the sentence "The Sri-NuanSri-Nuan dance as well as Teut-Teung dance are" as well as does not make the subject plural and hence plural verb "are" is incorrect. Only "and" can make the subject plural.

I am surprised (3) is NOT the OA. What is the source?

Guys... I am surprised to see a chain of post for such a simple SC based on SV agreement!!!

Plz do concentrate on posting quality- based questions..

and 3 should be the OA.....I see no reason in rejecting it!!

@suchoudh

Please post the source of the questions and it must be quality problems :-)

(3) seems to be the clear answer here satisfying S-V agreement.

The OA is 5(E), to me it looks wordy and awkward.

I would also think that (E) was incorrect because it's not concise, but indeed the red flag is SV agreement. And, in (A) and (B) the word "others" doesn't clearly refer to dances.

Now I understood why 3 is wrong!!

Yeah 5 is the correct answer. SV agreement & brevity is proper in 5 than in 3.
