What is your opinion on ways to address why a particular school is chosen?

Through some research I've done, I've noticed that it's common to cite specific professors, courses, and clubs and how they line up with your interests or career goals. Would you recommend this approach in general?

In my case, my honest reason for selecting the schools I have chosen is centered more on the quality of the people there (students particularly), the network, and the clout/ranking/quality of the program. These reasons are developed from my research (info sessions, class visits, conversations with students) into the school.

If I think broadly, my reasons could apply to any top tier school, but these reasons far outweigh my interest in a particular course or initiative at a particular school.

Thoughts?

Overall, from what I have seen, the most effective reasoning is really the "big picture" stuff, not necessarily a course or professor, as you have pointed out, but the place itself, its feeling, its philosophy, its ranking, its connection with your industry, and ability to provide you the opportunities you are seeking.

In general, this stuff is far more convincing, as from the outside, many programs are very similar (I mean what are you gonna write? "I like your school cause you teach Leadership"?????? Who doesn't??!?!?) Nonetheless, it would be remiss of you to get into the nitty-gritty detail, because this does show that you know the school well, that you have done your research, that you are interested in how the small eventually adds up to make up the large
