8. A company receives 3 batches of the same material from a supplier. The lorry driver says that batch A contains half the quantity in batches B and C combined and that batch B contains 8 more items than batch A. If batch C is found to contain 26 items what is the total quantity of material that has been delivered?Â

Translate the statements in the question into math.

A contains half the quantity in B and C combined: A = (B + C)/2

B contains 8 more items than A: B = A + 8

C is found to contain 26 items: C = 26

Combine the equations.

A = (A + 8 + 26)/2

A = A/2 + 34/2

A = 34

B = 42

A + B + C = 34 + 42 + 26 = 102

Hi ROHIT11111,

When posting GMAT questions, you should post the 5 answer choices with the question. Based on the 'design' of this question, we would absolutely be able to TEST THE ANSWERS and get to the solution. Without having the answer choices though, we're forced to 'do math' and solve algebraically.

Assume the size of batch A = x
Therefore size of Batch B + C = 2x and size of batch B = x + 8
Hence size of batch C = 2x - x - 8 = x - 8

Given, x - 8 = 26, hence x = 34
Total material received = x + 2x = 3*34 = 102
