The book says the answer is D, but I think this changes the meaning of the sentence. I think the correct answer should be C.

I agree with you BarryLi , i too chose C . Anyways do u have any official explanation for the same in the book ?

The source is "Barron's Pass Key to the GMAT", 4th edition. I have found many questions from the book to be unclear and/or inadequate in its explanation of the answer.

The book offers the meager explanation below, quoted verbatim:

Active verbs are preferred to passive verbs.

I missed "be" , didnt read minutely. Still i have doubt regarding the usage of that .

The part in (D) "we might attain" assumes that the results are for "us", but they could be for someone else. Consider a group of tutors emphasizing results that their past students have attained.

I'm going to sleep now, thanks for discussing my threads with me AIM GMAT. I would answer your thread "History chronicled" but have difficulty explaining my choices other than that a particular answer "sounds right".

i feel that D is right because it specifically mentions who might attain the results.

can anyone tell which is the correct word "decided that" or "decided to"............................

I think both are correct based on their use.

I decided that I would study hard.

I decided to study hard.

I could narrow down the question as:

A and E are passive hence out.
B is wordy hence not a good choice
I don't know on what basis I can eliminate either C or D.

Please help.

I have trouble eliminating either choice as well. I do not think that this would ever come up as a choice on the test. I would not worry too much about this. I like them both....
