Elizabeth I WAS A STUDENT of classical languages, and it was her who insisted that Greek and Latin were spoken at court.

a. it was her who insisted that Greek and Latin were spoken at court.

b. it was she that insisted on the speaking of Greek and LATIN AT COURT

C IT WAS SHE WHO INSISTED THAT Greek and Latin be spoken at court

d she had insisted that, at court, Greek and Latin were spoken

e she had insisted that Greek and Latin were to be spoken at court

imo:E

Can we justify the use pf past perfect in "E" ?

D and E shud not be correct since past perfect "had" is not required.

Also, since it is subjunctive .." she insisted that ....Greek and Latin be spoken at court "

is more correct than "Greek and Latin were to be spoken at court.

therefore C shud be correct.

i think it will be C..

change of tenses is not required.

But can we justify usage of SHE in option C ? IT was she..., where it is a subject , was verb and she is object.

yes, "IT" can be used to give emphasis

"she" is third person pronoun.

Eg:It was I who first protested.

IT WAS CLOSE BETWEEN C AND E
BUT THE TENSE USED IN E DOES NOT SUIT THE SENTENCE.

BUT I SERIOUSLY NEED 2 KNOW WHETHER THE USE OF BE (IN " Greek and Latin be spoken at ") IS VALID
