Art museums do not usually think of their collections as capital or consider the interest income that would be generated if a portion of the capital would have been invested in another form.

(A) be generated if a portion of the capital would have been
(B) have been generated if a portion of the capital would have been
(C) be generated if a portion of the capital were
(D) be generated if a portion of the capital was
(E) be generated if a portion of the capital had been

OA is C. Can someone explain me why??

C

C is correct.

Eliminate A, B and E right away because you can't use "would" or "had been" in "if" clause. Never, ever. There are only 3 rules regarding this matter.

If X happens, Y will happen.
If X happened, Y would happen.
If X had happened, Y would have happened.

Between C and D.
D is incorrect because of this.

If I WERE rich, I would bought a pink Bentley.
The subjunctive case is used to express a degree of uncertainty or unreality.

(please read Mgmat Chapter 3, page 48-49)

The first question, 4 is the answer.
Either x OR y (X, Y parallel)

Either you....or he.....
You either study......or play.....

1) You either transfer the data that was demanded or give me the disc

why is this wrong?

it is wrong because data is plural and datum is its singular form.. hence we use were instead of was

I would like to know what GMAT's take on this is. I agree that data is considred plural but it is also used as singluar in most forms of modern english.... :?:
