A purse contains a total of 15 coins,all of which are either dimes or nickels. If the value of the collection is $1.20, how many are dimes and how many are nickels?
(A) 10 dimes and 5 nickels
(B) 7 dimes and 8 nickels
(C) 11 dimes and 4 nickels
(D) 9 dimes and 6 nickels
(E) 8 dimes and 7 nickels

I think this question should also tell us the value of a dime and a nickel, otherwise this question is biased

D+N = 15 ------ 1
10D+5N = 120 ----- 2

Multiply equation 1 by 5

Subtract equation 1 from 2
5D = 45; D=9; N=6

The knowledge of US currency coins and their inter conversion is a must on GMAT. They would never provide us with this additional information whenever they would mention terms like penny, nickel, dime, quarter, dollar, or half dollar in their questions. So this question is not biased and yours is the right answer too. Please also mention your answer choices as A-E in the beginning or in the end.
