Q) According to ancient Egyptian belief, when mortals died, whether noble or common, they, first of all, joined Re on his nocturnal journey through the underworld; and secondarily, emerged immortal at dawn.

What is the source of this question. I doubt it to be correct because in the sentence semicolon is used also "and" is placed that construction is not correct. If semicolon is removed then the question is correct i.e.
According to ancient Egyptian belief, when mortals died, whether noble or common, they, first of all, joined Re on his nocturnal journey through the underworld and secondarily, emerged immortal at dawn.
here,
1. Second is parallel to first hence D and E
2. Also "emerged" is parallel to "joined"
Hence E.

Hi killer1387,
Thanks for the reply..
the question is from the testprep-online test series.
My doubt was also the same...
There were some other questions with lots of errors.
May be there test series is not that reliable.
~Thanks,

The correct question here is:-mankey wrote:Hoping someone would take a shot at this.
Regards.
Q.) According to ancient Egyptian belief, when mortals died, whether noble or common, they, first of all, joined Re on his nocturnal journey through the underworld and secondarily, emerged immortal at dawn.
Analysis:-
This sentence describes the ancient believes about the mortals:-
1. first of all, joined Re on his nocturnal journey through the underworld
2. secondarily, emerged immortal at dawn
Both the elements in the list should be parallel
-> joined||emerged , first||second
Therefore the correct answer is E.
Hope this helps.
