early decision

by IamApplying » Sun May 31, 2009 8:21 pm
Hello again,
I noticed that Columbia is one of the few schools that have binding Early Decision. Are their admission standards lower for the early applicants? The website does not give specifics on the breakdown between the two applicant pools. In your past experience, have somewhat sub-par applicants or those with weaknesses have been able to find acceptance where otherwise they would not have?
...for example people with below average gmat/gpa, less than 4-5 years of work experience, IB/PE/Consulting mainstream people?

Are their specific types of people you think would find early applications more advantageous? anyone that shouldn't apply to this cycle?

thanks.

Dear IamApplying,

The standards for the Early Decision round are not lower, in some would argue might be higher. However, I think the applicants in any round are held to the same standards. The early round is perfect for those that know Columbia is their first choice.

Lisa
