There are 2 pitchers for every 3 fielders
So, out of every 5 players, there are 2 pitchers.
So, in ONE 25-player team, there are 10 pitchers (and 15 fielders)

So, if there are 12 teams, and there are 10 pitchers and 15 fielders per team, then...
TOTAL number of pitchers = (12)(10 )
TOTAL number of fielders = (12)(15 )

The number of pitchers in the league is how much less than the number of fielders in the league?
Answer = (12)(15 ) - (12)(10 )
= 12(15 - 10)
= 12(5)
= 60

Answer: C

For each team, we have a total of 25 players and there are 2 pitchers for every 3 fielders.
So, on each team, there are 10 pitchers and 15 fielders
There are 12 teams in the league.
Thus, the total number of pitchers= No of pitchers x No of teams = 12*10 =120
Total number of fielders = No of fielders * No of teams = 15 * 12 = 180

Finding how much less is the pitchers in the league than the fielders.
Total No of fielders - Total No of pitchers = 180 - 120 = 60

ANSWER = OPTION C

The ratio of pitchers to fielders = 2x : 3x. Since each team has 25 players:

2x + 3x = 25

5x = 25

x = 5

Each team has 10 pitchers and 15 fielders. Thus, the number of pitchers in the league is 10 x 12 = 120, and the number of fielders in the league is 15 x 12 = 180.

Thus, there are 180 - 120 = 60 fewer pitchers than fielders.

Answer: C

Hi All,

We're told that each baseball team in a league has a roster of players in the ratio of 2 pitchers for every 3 fielders, each team has a total of 25 players on its roster and there are 12 total teams in the league. We're asked for the DIFFERENCE between the total number of fielders and the total number of pitchers in the league. This is essentially an Arithmetic question, but you can approach the math in a number of different ways.

We're first told that there are 2 pitchers for every 3 fielders on a team - thus, for every 5 players on a team, the difference between the number of fielders and the number of pitchers is 1. Each team has 25 players, so that's five 'groups' of five... and the difference per TEAM is 5(1) = 5 players.

With 12 total teams in the league, the overall difference is 5(12) = 60 players.

Final Answer: C
