Its given data that n has to be a number between 3 and 4

Statement 2 looks easier.....go right to Statement 2:

n + 0.28 > 4
Thus, n > 4 - 0.28
Or , n > 3.68 .......( but at the same time its also less than 4, given info)

If n= 3.69, the tengths digit = 6 .......(Is tenths digit of n >7 ? ---NO)
If n = 3.81, the tenths digit = 8........(Is tenths digit of n >7 ? ---YES)
Sometimes Yes and Sometimes NO = Insufficient.

Eliminate B and D

Statement 1:

n has to be 3. 5 or greater, since rounding it off leads to 4

Again we can have myriads of tenths digit values , so Insufficiency

Even if you combine the statements, we havent resolved the possiblity of the tenths digit of n being either larger than 7 or lesser than 7.

Therefore, my answer is E.

My answer was also E, but unfortunately the practice test from Mc graw Hill says it is B "statemenet 2 alone is sufficient". i did not understand the reasoning behind it

n > 3.72

However, the answer remains the same, since the tenths digit could be 7, 8 or 9.

Is 7 > 7? NO
Is 8 > 7? YES

Statement (1) doesn't add anything, so the correct answer should be (e).

Are you sure that the original question didn't ask:

Is the tenths digit of n >= 7?

If that were the question, then (b) would in fact be the correct answer.

i double checked the question and it does not mention anything about equality to 7, but the answer says it is B ( 1 is insuffiecient because n could be 3.6 or 3.8 ) ( 2 is sufficient becuase the only way this statment is true is if n>3.72)

now this does not make sense for me, since it can be greater than 3.72, n can simply be 3.73 and the tenths digit is =7 or n could be equal to 3.8 and the tenths digit is 8. So the answer is E

do you think if we found a mistake in the Mcgraw hill book they would refund us the money we paid for it ???

Hey there,

i just got back from the test, 640 is the unofficial score. i made a fatal mistake and lost track of the time in the quantitative, i left 4 questions unanswered which shot down my quant score to 57%, but the verbal was good 84%.

I think the final score should be a bit higher, they should add the AWA points and i think it is about 650, enough to get me in the program i want.
