My thought is that it is A.
Explanation:
The shortest distance between two parallel lines is the perpendicular distance.
As x decreases, length of PQ increases.
Similarly, As y decreases, length of SR increases.
Since (A) says x>y. then SR>PQ.
This explanation is theoretical, I couldn't solve it mathematically.
Any mathematical genius out there, please help.

I think it's A.
Let's picture it. Let's assume that X = Y. Then PQ = SR.
To make X>Y, one could either increase X or decrease Y.
If Y decreases the top end of RS (point S) moves further to the right increasing the length of PS.
If X increases the top end of PQ (point P) moves further to the left also increasing the length of PS.
So (1) is sufficient.
Statement 2 doesn't say anything about the relationship of X w/ respect Y. So it's insufficient.
