DS - Direct Proportion

by karthikpandian19 » Mon Jun 11, 2012 5:45 am
In a chemical experiment, the production of element j is directly proportional to the production of element k, which is in turn directly proportional to the production of element m. What is the production of j if the production of m=6?

Production of k=0.5 whenever production of m=5.
Production of j=1.5 whenever production of m=4.

Production of k=0.5 whenever production of m=5.
Production of j=1.5 whenever production of m=4.
Since j is directly proportional to k, and k is directional proportional to m, j is directly proportional to m.

Statement 1: k/m = .5/5.
No information about j.
INSUFFICIENT.

Statement 2: j/m = (1.5)/4.
Since we know the ratio of j to m, we can determine the value of j when m=6.
SUFFICIENT.

The correct answer is B.
