Can a certain rectangular sheet of glass be positioned on a rectangular tabletop so that
it covers the entire tabletop and its edges are parallel to the edges of the tabletop?
(1) The tabletop is 36 inches wide by 60 inches long.
(2) The area of one side of the sheet of glass is 2400 square inches.


I don't have OA for it but can anyone help?

stmt 1 - insuff as you dont have any info of sheet of glass
stmt 2 - insuff as you dont have any info of tabletop...

both - if one takes areawise the sheet of glass has more area than that of tabletop and so one may think that it is sufficient but we need to see whether the sides will be ||l to tabletop edges. All we know is the area of sheet not the dimensions and dimension can values such 12 * 200, 40 * 60, 80 * 30 etc....and for each type of dimension the sheet may nor may not fit properly on the tabletop.....So insuf..

IMO ans is E....Others pls comment and correct me if i'm wrong!!!!

Should the answer not be C?

For the glass sheet to cover the table top and for its edges to be parallel to the table top it must have the same dimensions as the table top.

Now if the two sheets have the same dimensions they will also have the same area.

since the area of the glass sheet is 2400 and the area of the table top is 2160 the glass sheet cannot have edges parallel to the table top

Can any one help me understand where I am going wrong?

Hi ri2007,
Just imagine a long sheet of glass placed on the tabletop whose lenght is 100 & wifth is 24 whereas the the table top is 36 inches wide & 60 inches long so out of the lenght of 100 inches, 40 winches will be outiside the tabletop (floating) parallel edges mean that the edges can have some distance between then & this distance will be the region not covered, do u get it.
