In a medley of 20 players from different nations, 3/4 are either Indians or American players. How many American players does the medley contain?

1. The number of American players is twice the number of Indian players.
2. The team has more than 8 Indian players.

Given: Out of 20 players, 3/4 are either Indian or American.
20*(3/4) = 15. Thus, American + Indian = 15

Statement 1: American = 2*Indian
Now, American + Indian = 15 => 2*Indian + Indian = 15 => 3*Indian = 15 => Indian = 5
Thus, American = 10

Sufficient.

Statement 2: Indian > 8.
Thus, American + Indian > American + 8
=> American + 8 < 15
=> American < 7

Not sufficient.

The corrrect answer is A.

I'm little confused with the " either.. or.." statement in the question.
Doesn't "[b]either A or B [/b]" mean either A OR B and NOT both ?
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I learnt that in DS questions, one statement should not contradict with another.
But in this case, statement 1 states that indian=5, whereas statement 2 states that indian>8. And so contradicting each other.

The contradiction may not be there if we assume the rest of the players can also be Indians. But that doesn't seems from the question stem.
Any opinion?
