driving to the mall

by kushal.adhia » Tue Nov 09, 2010 7:32 am
Jane drives n miles to the mall. She then drives 3 miles to the bank and 2 miles to the movies. If she is now 12 miles from her starting point, what is the range of possible values for n?

A. 4<= n<= 12
B. 5<= n<= 12
C. 7<= n<= 15
D. 7<= n<= 17
E. 12<=n<= 17

I was able to figure out the minimum possible distance as 7. How do i calculate the maximum distance?

Thanks

Kushal

Assume that the first two legs of the journey are due west. She is then 5 miles west of her starting point. If the last stop is due east, it will be 17 miles away.
