A public-service advertisement advises that people who have consumed alcohol should not drive until they can do so safely. In a hospital study, however, subjects questioned immediately after they consumed alcohol underestimated the time necessary to regain their driving ability. This result indicates that many people who drink before driving will have difficulty following the advertisement’s advice.
Which of the following, if true, most strongly supports the argument above?
(A) Many people, if they plan to drink alcohol, make arrangements beforehand for a nondrinker to drive them home.
(B) The subjects in the hospital study generally rated their abilities more conservatively than would people drinking alcohol outside a hospital setting.
(C) Some people refrain from drinking if they will have to drive to get home afterward.
(D) The subjects in the hospital study were also questioned about the time necessary to regain abilities that do not play an important role in driving safely.
(E) Awareness of the public-service advertisement is higher among the general population than it was among the subjects in the hospital study.

OA B
According to the passage, driving is an ability. The subjects were more conservative about driving.

B) The subjects were conservative about all abilities in general. Hence, it strengthens.

A. out of scope. doesnt follow from the stimulus

B. correct by POE.

C. out of scope. passage deals with people who have consumed alcohol before driving

D. out of scope. only driving ability talked about in the passage

E. no information in the passage to support comparison between hospital subjects and non hospital subjects.

A)-> Does not actually relate to the conclusion so as to strengthen it. The passage is primarily concerned with the same drunk driver driving the vehicle and not about anyone else.

B)->The passage already states that the folks in the hospital underestimate(assume time to recover and drive) their capabilities and hence the conclusion of the passage was drawn. If people outside were more conservative(Like in this option B) in their decisions (assume even less time to recover than the people in the hospital) then this clearly strengthen the argument.

C)->Not relevant at all.This argument is no way related to the conclusion.

D)->Not relevant at all.This is in no way connected to the passage.Only ability we need to look into is the ability to drive safely.

E)->Not relevant at all.Number of people aware is not mentioned in this passage.


You can also use POE for options C,D,E and B clearly strengthens the argument.Please let me know what the OA is since I am curios to know if my approach is correct.
