A sink contains exactly 12 liters of water. If water is drained from the sink until it holds exactly 6 liters of water less than the quantity drained away, how many liters of water were drained away?
(A) 2
(B) 3
(C) 4.5
(D) 6
(E) 9

the water drained away - "x"
the water still in sink - "x-6"

x+x-6=12
x=9

let x is drained
left over is then x-6
so 12-x=x-6--->x=9
