Hey melvinsgmat, melvinsgmat wrote:On page 5 of the gmat flash cards, the pronoun reference error is mentioned, but is there any answer to the correct one for that, or do we need to do that on our own..
Could you please clarify this for me , Eric
I can provide some correct examples for you:
Clear pronoun reference: "Fred and Vijay went to the soccer match, but Fred said that he liked cricket better."
Singular/Plural Subject Agreement: "The average dentist expects patients to be on time, and she is usually mistaken."
If you need some more assistance about these concepts, I encourage you to ask in the GMAT Verbal forums. Good luck!

Not sure if someone brought this up. I think "None, No One", 4th flashcard on Pg11 needs further clarification. According to MGMAT, "None" is classified as a SANAM pronoun, so it can be either singular or plural depending on the context?

Hi am not sure if this is the correct thread to point this out, but I was going throught the flash cards and I think this is a mistake:
Page 22
Phrase, Clause
You can change a dangling participle into a proper clause
by adding a subject or verb or both.
INCORRECT: "Sarah's camera was lost while skiing
to the base." (Underlined portion is a dangling
participle - it's hanging.)
CORRECT: "As she was skiing to the base, Sarah' ... a was lost." (Underlined portion is a clause with a subject
and verb.)
Shouldn't this be "As she was skiing to the base, Sarah lost her camera"
Please correct me if I am wrong

I'm having trouble getting the flashcards. The link appears on the site as a .PDF, but when I save them to try to open on my computer they are a .PHP document - which I can't open. Help please!

@mj41, thanks for catching this--you are absolutely correct and I just uploaded a new version of the flashcards to reflect the fix! Much appreciated!
@stephaniega, can you try again? The download appears to work for me. Thanks.

Hi Eric,
Great work with the flashcards there. Thanks a ton for sharing them and the continuous updates too.
a suggestion: If it is not too much to ask, could you keep some version number; may be in the file name itself or something like that
many thanks.
cheers!!

Great suggestion. There is a 'last updated' date on the first flashcard, but not obvious at all. Appreciate the suggestion!iamseer wrote:Hi Eric,

Thanks for these flash cards. They were very useful.
However, there are a number of mistakes on these flash cards dated "April 9, 2010".
Below, I will refer to the flash cards by page number and distinguish among the 4 flash cards on one page in the same way one distinguishes the quadrants in a Cartesian plane:
II I
III IV
Wrong:
- 17II: "Some cake is left," "More water is needed," "All of the cake," etc. are obviously possible. As you mentioned in your example on 24I, "Most of the school is...". So the entire card is wrong.
- 12II should be called "passive/active voice," not "passive/active tense"
Also, 12II says: These are usually present or past perfect forms of verbs.
And then gives example: "Have/had" + VERB + -ing" is rarely the correct choice
Not only should -ing be a past participle instead ("-ed") but, more importantly, this is not the passive voice. The passive voice is be-VERB + past-participle.
- 33III: Other types of questions for which additional information can/should be used: Weaken, Assumption, Resolve the Paradox.
- 60III: P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A and B) as you wrote on 60I
- 81II: This should be 40% and not 50% since A alone has 20% chance, B alone has 20% chance, either A or B has 20% chance. So left over is 40%
- 81I: For same reason as 81I, it should be 40% and not 50%.
- 83IV: Again this is 40%
Questionable:
- 18III: There's nothing wrong with "Whether" and more than 2 options. I think that "Whether" is probably safer than "If" for more than 2 options. In fact, that's what you said in 26I.
Combine:
12I should be combined with 5II so we can easily compare.
14IV and 12II
18IV should be combined with 28II
Eliminate duplicate:
5II is the same as 6III
5III is the same as 6IV
5IV is unnecessary because of both 7II and 7I
17IV is unnecessary because of both 11I and 11II
21II is already included in 10I
24IV is the same as 11I
17III is the same as 26IV
61IV is the same as 59III
57III is the same as 59I
Improve:
- 13III should mention "rate of" as in "rate of telephone breakdowns".
- 63I Instead of b2 you should write b^2
- 63IV It's generally known as GCF: greatest common factor
- 78I Exception: sometimes some equations can cancel out multiple variables. Example:
If a + b + c = 3 and a + b + 2c = 5, what is c?
Subtracting the equations, you can calculate c but not a or b: c = 2.
Myths (anything about probability of answers is just wrong -- the fact is that they use computers to pick questions such that there is an equal probability of A, B, C, D, E answers):
83II, 77I, 55I

Thank you so much for this thorough feedback! I'm in the process of hiring another GMAT instructor to do a review/revision of these flashcards--I will pass along all of these comments to her, to flag these issues. The next update to the BTG flashcards should happen very shortly.
Appreciate your help,
Eric
