She explained she both wants a large house in the city, so that she can make visits the museums regularly, and also a cottage in the mountains, to which she can go on free weekends.

B.wants both a large house in the city, for the purpose of visiting the museums regularly, and a cottage in the mountains, where

my doubt: i fail to understand as why B is wrong. why the usage of "where" is wrong in B?

A: both wants and also a cottage
D: both a large house and as well a cottage
E: both wants and a cottage
In these options, the forms in red are not parallel.
Eliminate A, D and E.

In B, it is unclear what for the purpose of visiting is modifying and whether where refers to a cottage or to the mountains.
Eliminate B.

In C, it is unclear whether from which refers to a large house or to the city and whether to which refers to a cottage or to the mountains.
Eliminate C.

Hi aditya8062,

What is the source of this question? The author is clearly focused on Parallelism rules, but the construction of the sentence is rather "clunky" (and even the correct answer has problems).

Mitch pointed out the major Parallelism issues with 3 of the wrong answers, but those answers can also be eliminated in other ways:

1) The phrases "and also" and "and as well" are redundant. Eliminate A and D.
2) Since the woman in this sentence wants to two things (a house and a cottage), it's grammatically correct to say "she wants both....", not "she both wants..." Eliminate E.

From here, B and C have the same Modification 'issues'; I think that the author intends for the phrases "from which" and "to which" to be considered parallel, so I'd eliminate B.

Final Answer:C

It's unlikely that the Official GMAT would offer a prompt that was written in this way. I'd also be a bit suspicious of the source.
