Does the GMAT score get "old"?

Hi Lisa,

I took the GMAT couple of weeks ago and scored 770 (Q50, V47, AWA 5.5).
I plan to work for a couple of years and also plan to take up leadership opportunities outside of work to improve my profile for the top schools (I just have 15 months of experience till now).

I heard some people say that if I wait to apply in 2011 for 2012 class, my score may be seen as old and may not carry as much weight as a more recent score does.

I have checked the websites for all the universities I am interested in but none talked about old scores (as long as it was less than 5 years old).

Just wanted to clarify with you so that I can bury this irritant for ever :)

WOW nice job, brainiac. That is one stellar GMAT score. There are hordes of b-school applicant mortals out there who are jealous of you indeed. To answer your question, no, the "older" score will not be a negative so long as you apply before it expires as you indicated within 5 years. Take your 770 and run for the hills--it's good as gold.
