Hello everyone,
I have read many interesting and fantastic posts here about the actual GMAT scoring algorithm. I have a question.

Lets say in the real GMAT test, a person is very 'lucky' indeed, he answered all the experimental questions incorrectly and answered every other questions (which are counted to the score) correctly, does that mean he will get a perfect 800 score? :D Lets share the opinions, everyone!

Tom,

Counted questions: 1 point each
Experimental questions: 0 points each

so I ask you 800 counted questions and 50 experimental questions. Lets calculate your score:

(800 x 1) +( 50 x 0) = 800 B-)

Yes, but that is extremely unlikely to happen - and not just for the obvious reason that it would be 'extremely good luck'. After all, the experimental questions will mostly be well below the 800 difficulty level, so should be (mostly) easy for someone capable of answering 800-level questions correctly. For someone at that level, their 'real' questions will be far more difficult than their experimental questions.

Hello, thank you for the opinion. I agree with you that it is quite impossible to answer the experimental questions wrongly since these questions are mostly easier than the 800 level questions. If a test taker can be at the 800 level, he or she would probably knows how to answer most of the questions, anyway.

But talking in general terms, experimental questions are odd, strange, untested (not in harmony with your current difficulty level) & therefore are difficult to answer in most of the cases than the other questions.

But for your ^specific case^ yes it could be obvious that person of 800 GMAT caliber would answer experimental questions correctly as well.
