There are so many free online courses by top universities these days. They even give you a statement of accomplishment from the instructor. Will these help if you have a low GPA, even if slightly?

I have a GPA of 3.15 and I cannot do anything about it. But, I have enrolled in a plenty of courses. I have gained a lot of knowledge, but was wondering if these add value to my application!

I think so. At the very least you get an A for effort - making an effort to learn and improve. Not everyone lives in a place where there is an actual class to go to. So online seems like a good compromise and certainly better than nothing.

Hi shraddhalanka89,

Definitely full time courses are much better and add an extra value. But if you can't go for full time course at this stage of your career you can go for online courses. And yes, something is better than nothing :) For online courses even if you have a lower GPA you have chances to get in.

A 3.15 gpa is low but is far from a disaster. You can still apply to solid programs and yes taking some courses is a smart idea. I do recommend to my clients that they try to take at least one physical vs virtual class and secure an A- or better. Taking courses shows initiative and interest. And take courses in perhaps quantitative areas you did not do as well in before.
