Hi all

I plan to take the GMAT next March. I need to score around 650 to get into my desired school. EDIT - I'VE JUST BOOKED MYSELF ON TO THE COURSE

I've bought the complete Manhattan GMAT guides and have been working through the Maths books for the last month or so. I'm only on the second book so it has been slow progress.

I haven't done maths since I was 16 so I'm rusty to say the least!

My problem is this - when I read through the chapters, it all makes sense and I'm fine. I understand the concepts and the explanations to the sample questions. I feel confident...

...that is, until I do the practice questions at which point I fall to pieces. I lose confidence in my own ability and when there are various ways to answer a question, I get confused as to which method is best for me. I usually end up using the long-winded methods as I need to work through everything on a point by point basis - if I don't understand why a shortcut works, I have difficulty in applying it.

I also become flustered quite easily with all the numbers and letters and go into a mild panic - give me an hour and I'll probably get the answer right eventually, but in 2 minutes?!!

I'm confident that my grammatical ability will be ok, so it's just the quantitative section I'm worried about.

I do about an hour a night, but it can literally take me that time to work through 5 questions - how am I ever meant to do them in 2 minutes?

I'm now thinking that in order to get a decent score, I'm going to have to enrol in a class. I have done some research and I think that the Veritas Prep course is the best for me as it sounds detailed and intensive - plus there is one in London (UK) around the time I need to do it.

So should I carry on trawling through the Manhattan books, or should I enrol myself on the course early next year? Remember, I need a score of around 650.

Any guidance would be appreciated as the course is expensive and I'm desperately trying to save all money for business school. EDIT - SEE ABOVE, COURSE NOW BOOKED!
