Disease, pollution, and overfishing

by gmatdriller » Sun Jan 15, 2012 9:03 am
Disease, pollution, and overfishing have devastated the bountiful oyster
harvests that once sustained the residents of the Chesapeake Bay area.

A: ....
B: in and around the Chesapeake Bay
C: of the Chesapeake Bay
D: around the vicinity of the Chesapeake Bay
E: living in and around the Chesapeake Bay area

Do we say,
"residents of San Jose" or
"residents of San Jose area?

A "bay" is a body of water, and people don't reside in water. Logically, we need the word "area" for the sentence to make complete sense.

that was an oversight, i think; did not pay attention to the meaning
of the word "bay."
Rather, I simply imagined "Chesapeake Bay" to be the name of a place.

Like saying,
"residents of California city." We defintely don't need to say
"residents of california city area.
