Can some one tell me why B and C are wrong?
I'm no expert, just trying to work on my skills. If I've made any mistakes please bear with me.

I will pick [spoiler]A[/spoiler].

Here, in the process of analyzing the reason for a discrepancy in the records(assume files), he found that the files had been tampered with. The discrepancy was not expected and that's why he was trying to find the reason.

But B & C state that it is trying to find discrepancy in records,implying that there is an already existing(Known) discrepancy in the records.

Hope my answer and explanation make sense.
