Categories of Reading Comprehension Question in the Official Guide 13th Edition.

Categories of reading comprehension questions vary depending on who is doing the categorization. At Veritas we use a simple, but very useful 4-part categorization. Here are the categories:

Specific - Specific questions at those that feature an answer choice that is a paraphrase of something directly from the text. These questions often start with "according to the passage" and are directly answered by the correct portion of the text.

Inference - Inference questions are an extension of what is specifically said in the text. These questions say "the passage implies (or suggests)" of "the author would most likely agree with" or "it can be inferred."

Function - The function question asks why a particular paragraph or piece of information is used. What is its function in the passage?

Universal - The universal question asks you about the passage as a whole. The "primary purpose" is the best known universal question, but other questions may ask for the best title or what the author is most interested in.

I am looking for a breakdown of quant question in OG such as the one posted by David for verbal questions where i can look up the questions by topic

Unfortunately, a breakdown of the SC questions by topic would render them useless for students to use. You see, if you know in advance that you have a strengthen CR question that is no big deal because the question stem will tell you that it is a strengthen question!

But if you know in advance that a particular SC question is about parallelism or subject-verb agreement, well that is what sentence correction is about right? Figuring out what to focus on for each question. So no chart for SC.

Brent is quite right...

A CR question is not a strengthen and a weaken, a Word Problem is not a work/ rate and a venn diagram, but a sentence correction problem is often many things at once.
