Defining B-school "Tiers"

Hi,

I've been perusing these forums and some articles about B schools and have (hopefully) an easy question...

When talking about tiers, ie. "Top-Tier", "Second-Tier" and "Third-Tier", approximately how many schools per tier are we talking about? Is top tier usually meant as top 5, top 10, top 15, etc?

I think I've figured out that third tier = unranked b-schools, but let me know if I'm wrong!

The term "top business school" is another way of saying first tier business school. Although every organization is different, most consider a first tier business school to be any school that is in a top 30. ranking

Most people label 30 business schools that are below the top 30 as "second tier business schools."

"Third tier business Schools" are below this level.

This is my interpretation after seeing the rank sites.
