Hello All,

I would like to start of by praising BTG; its a great site with a great community. I have been reading material on this website for the past week and have decided to make it a staple of my study diet.

I have decided to follow the 3-month prep plan with aims of writing my GMAT for the first/last time in January. My target score is 700 as I want to compensate for my low GPA and gain admitance into the Haskayne School of Business at the Universtiy of Calgary.

I have purchased 4-books so far: Kaplan GMAT Premier 2009, Kaplan GMAT Advanced, OG GMAT Review 12th Ed and OG GMAT Quant review. I plan on purchasing the MGMAT 8-book set tonight. In the opinion of current "studiers" and past GMAT contestants is this a good enough kit to start with? is the 2011 version of the Premier better then the 2009?

Second question is: Where is the best place to take my first practice CAT exam (to gauge my study needs)?

I wrote my first practice GMAT yesterday, I used the kaplan practice exam, felt easy compared to the challenge questions i see on the board here. scored a 580 can't remember the break down but $ wise it was 70%Q 53%V.

Is that indicitive of my true strength at this point in the game, or is the Kaplan exam not of the same difficulity as the real GMAT?

I need some advice as to how to study. I am trying to follow the 3-month guide, but after 1-day of going through the Kaplan Premier, I noticed in 5-hours I barely made it out of basic algebra ( even though I am confident in it I want to go through absolutely every part of the exam thoroughly). Is this a wrong approach? Should i Be doing the practice problems in the Kaplan Premier and use the strategies as a guide? then progress to the OG12 and Quantative guide?

same with verbal, how do you conquer time/study management? Do you actually read every single word or try to grasp the basics and practice?

a little over a week ago i wrote my first practice gmat; scored 580. Today i wrote a gmat prep exam and scored 520 that 19 wrong in Qaunt and 15 wrong in verbal.

i dont' understand the decrease in marks, i've been studying quant steadily for 2weeks, and have an 80% accuracy with regards to the OG questions. I was planning on studying SC and CR for the next 2months but it seems as if i will have to change my plans and study quant over again.

any advice would be great.

20% error is a pretty large gap, thus you're seeing the fluctuation in score.

Without analyzing where you're making mistakes and how you're making mistakes, it is difficult to assess and suggest how you should approach quant.
