Hi Everyone,

I came across this question and was not satisfied with the explanation given in the book.

Is t a non-integer?

1. |t-3|<1
2. t is not equal to 3

I would be really grateful for a more concise explanation.

1) If |t-3|<1, then 2<t<4. In this case, t can only be an integer if it is 3, but we don't know if it's 3 or 2.5 or 3.5.
2) On its own, this statement doesn't tell us much. t could be any integer other than three or it could be any non-integer.

Combined, we know 2<t<4, but t is not 3, so it must be a non-integer.

IMHO, The answer is C.

1) 2 < t < 4 ('t' can be a integer of a fraction)
2) 't' can be integer or any number other than 3

Combined : We could say that 't' is a fraction/non-integer.
