#### Cylinder with largest volume

Sat Feb 15, 2014 11:31 pm
Hello,

Right cylinder A has diameter 6 and height 5. Right cylinder B has diameter
10 and height 3. Which cylinder has the largest volume and what is the difference
between the two volumes?

(A) A's volume is greater than B's volume, and the difference is 30 pi
(B) A's volume is greater than B's volume, and the difference is 15 pi
(C) A's volume is equal to B's volume
(D) B's volume is greater than A's volume, and the difference is 15 pi
(E) B's volume is greater than A's volume, and the difference is 30 pi

I am getting E

Thanks,
Sri

Volume of Cylinder A = π 3²5 => 45π

Volume of Cylinder B = π 5²3 => 75π

Hence Volume of b > Volume of A by 30Ï€

Hence answer will undoubtedly be (E)

(E) B's volume is greater than A's volume, and the difference is 30 pi

Volume of cylinder = (pi)r²h

Right cylinder A: diameter 6 and height 5
This means the radius = 3
So, Volume = (pi)(3)²(5)
= 45pi

Right cylinder B: diameter 10 and height 3
This means the radius = 5
So, Volume = (pi)(5)²(3)
= 75pi

75pi - 45pi = 30pi

So, cylinder B has a volume that's 30pi greater than that of cylinder A

Cheers,
Brent
