The criminologist reported that it is not uncommon for violent criminals to subject a victim to humiliations similar to those which they experienced as children.

I choose E.

I was able to figure out that B and D are wrong because of "child" (Singular) is wrong and plural is needed "children".

1) how to choose such as or similar to?
2) which vs Like

What a grim sentence!

Anyway, we want to say "similar to", since they can't actually take their victims back in time. ("Such as those" would imply the victims were present for the childhood humiliations, but this is unlikely/impossible.)

We also want to use 'children' rather than 'child', since we're talking about things that they experienced.

That leaves us with A vs C. We use "which" for nonessential information: information that can be safely removed from a sentence without impacting the meaning. But this information IS essential: we need to specify exactly what kind of humiliations we're describing. So we must say "THAT they experienced ..." and our answer is C.

If the following was one of the choices, would it be the best choice?

The criminologist reported that it is not uncommon for violent criminals to subject a victim to humiliations similar to those that he/she experienced as a child..

I am still not clear how ...they experienced as children is correct usage with a victim.

Experts please clarify.
