I've just decided to apply to B-schools and have about 5-6 weeks to study for the GMAT and complete my applications. Also, I'm not currently working so I have the whole day open to study. I just took a practice exam and got a 540, but I need to get at least a 700. Is this enough time? Would an online course be the most efficient prep mode, or should i just dive right into the books and practice tests? Thanks

I would start with self prep and see how you do. I wouldn't recommend studying ALL day, though. Maybe a few hours in the morning and a few hours later in the day, but not like a real work day, you know?

What was the practice exam that you took, btw?

I would start with Cracking the GMAT. It has the best review of the GMAT (IMO). Go all the way through it before you take another practice test. After you take another 2-3 tests, if you're not improving, then yeah, an online course would probably be a good idea.
