crap at math

by smruthys » Mon Mar 26, 2007 8:22 am
Ok so im a little lost. Is it impossible for someone who's not so hot in math to score a 700 above? Incidentally i took a diagnostic test today. 550 it is. how bad is that for a diagnostic?

A 550 is above the national average. I have seen many posts from individuals on various gmat boards who seem to have jumped into the high 600 and low 700 range from scoring in the low 500's on their tests. Obviously they put in a considerable level of effort. I use those posts to motivate myself and follow their advice. :)

Hi, guys, sorry I haven't been on in a while! Traveling.

Scout - great post. It is certainly possible to improve from a 550 to high 600s and maybe even a 700. Part of the likelihood depends upon how much work you put in and part depends upon whether you already studied a lot to get to 550 or whether you were still pretty early in your studies.

FYI if you have already studied a lot on your own, you may need to take a class or get a tutor in order to improve significantly.

I followed Stacey's advice and signed up for the MGMAT class. I just had the first class and it seems OK so far. They didnt really get into the material yet, so i cant tell how it will turn out. But i have heard nothing but good things about their course.
