The importance of ozone layer to terrestrial animals is that it entirely filters out some wavelengths of light but lets others through. Holes in the ozone layer and the dangers associated with these holes are well documented. However, one danger that has not been given sufficient attention is that these holes could lead to severe eye damage for animals of many species.
Which one of the following is most strongly supported by the statements above, if true?
A) All wavelengths of sunlight that can cause eye damage are filtered out by the ozone layer where it is intact.
B) Few species of animals live on a part of the earth's surface that is not threated by the holes in ozone layer.
C) Some species of animals have eyes that will not suffer any damage when exposed to unfiltered sunlight
D) A single wavelength of sunlight can cause severe damage to the eyes of most species of animals.
E) Some wavelengths of sunlight that cause eye damage are more likely to reach earth's surface where there are holes in the ozone layer than where their are not.
The OA is E.
But, my confusion is why not C? The last sentence does say that many species can suffer eye damage. Doesn't that means that their are atleast some species whose eyes will not suffer damage?

Hi Sam,
Please be careful with the terms some, often and most etc.
The term "some" could mean "all" but not necessarily.
All - 100
Some - 1-100("at least one")
Most - 51-100
None - 0
So that rules out Option D which talks about something that is not mentioned in the passage.

The premise says that some wavelengths of sunlight pass through the ozone holes. This is correlated to the fact that some animals that are exposed to these ozone holes have a danger of losing their eyesight, which means the wavelengths of light that pass through the ozone hole will cause that damage.
Option E strengthens this fact by mentioning that these harmful wavelengths are more likely to reach the earth's surface through these ozone holes.
Option C talks about a few species of animals which have eyes that will not suffer any harm to these radiations - which is quite irrelevant here.
Hope this helps,
Pradeep

E is correct here.
