The sloan cover letter asks you to -include an example of how you had an impact on a group or organization. --

Should this example be different from the ones in the essays. There are atleast 2 essays that require impact related experiences. Should we brief them in the cover letter or include a totally new one.

Thanks

Dear Pink,

I think a new example is probably best as you want a chance to shine in your essays, show how you have made an impact in many ways over the past 3 years. Highlighting an example you then write about in greater detail later in another essay is one strategy, but it could lead the reader to conclude you had no other examples.

Good luck,
Lisa

thanks for the tips.

Is it ok to draw on an example from beyond the past 3 years in the cover letter? Sloan stipulates that essay examples must be within the last three years in the essay section, and I kind of feel I am running out of high-quality leadership/impact stories, particularly if I am not going to mention the three I have already mentioned in my essays.

Do you think an example from university (founding a student group to encourage business students to pursue non-profit careers) would be too far back to draw on?

Thanks!

It is always best to follow any direction given by the school in terms of your answers. So, I would stay within the three year parameter when picking an example.

Lisa
