I think A is the correct answer .IF they share x rather than cultivating y is correct.

IMO B

(B) is correct. "share," a verb, must be parallel with "cultivate."

In (C), not only is the meaning distorted, but the usage of "their" is weird, because its antecedent is "couples," not the individuals in the relationship who actually have partners. That is, "couples," don't have partners, husbands and wives (separately) do.

Posting my question here instead of starting a new thread !

My question is that the reasoning on which c is eliminated is that "their" is wrong in referring to couples as its not the couples who have partners but the elements that make up couples that have partners!

Now in that case , looking at this part of the sentence "that couples will be more successful in marriage if they share common hobbies " i think They refers to the couples , although its the elements of the couples who share common hobbies not the couples! rather this as such seems to say that if one couple forms a common hobby with the other !

Can any expert please clarify this ?
