The point is not stating the answer, but to state how you arrived at it. How did you get the answer?

Hi, this is the method I followed:

1. find 2A-B first, which is 10,000 -> this step will eliminate 4 unnecessary steps.

2. 20% for 10,000 = 2000
3. remainder is 8000
4. 40% of 8000 is 3200

total excess is 2000+8000+3200 = 13200.

Or you can use this method -

A = 20000, B = 50000
Finance cost = 40%
Downpayment = 20%
Amount left = 80% of original price

A = (40/100) * (80/100) * 40000 = 12800
B = (40/100) * (80/100) * 50000 = 16000

Total cost of Machine A = 52800
Total cost of Machine B = 66000

Difference = 66000 - 52800 = 13200

4000 + 0.4*16000 + 16000 = 26400 = 52800
10000+0.4*40000+ 40000 = 66000
66000-52800 = 13200
