COMPANY

For the purpose of stimulating innovation
at TechCorp, one of the company's
long-standing goals has been to obtain at
least 50 percent of its annual revenues
from sales of products that are no more
than three years old. Last year, TechCorp
achieved this goal, despite the fact that the
company introduced no new products
during the year.
Which of the following, if true, best
explains the results described above?
A. None of the company's competitors
introduced any new products during
the last year.
B. Scientists at the company report that
they are close to breakthroughs that
should result in several new products
during the coming year.
C. Sales of some of the company's older
products were discontinued during
that last year.
D. The company has introduced very few
new products during the last three
years.
E. Company spending on research and
development has increased sharply
over the past five years.

I think it's C. This is because the option provides an alternate explanation for reaching the target that does not involve innovation, but rather discontinuing products.

Spot the discrepancy: Last year, TechCorp
achieved this goal (obtain at
least 50 percent of its annual revenues
from sales of products that are no more
than three years old), DESPITE the fact that the
company introduced no new products
DURING the year.

Possibilities:
- Sales of new products were introduced during last year or the year prior to last year.
- Old products were discontd as a result of which sales from these products will be off from the total sales.

C says the second.

Thank you for your kind words. Fact is, there's only two things I did for my CR:
- read the CR Bible - it's a great resource and used properly will boost your score tremendously
- practice, practice, practice! You will eventually spot "trends" in questions, types of traps that are set up for you.

CR is my favorite verbal section because it's a sort of mindgame - win or lose to prove your "logical" strength. I always read CR questions as a challenge more than an exercise, I guess - my attitude probably helps as well.

Answer C seems to be logical one out of other answer choices
