Coffee berries

Expert replies

The yield per acre of coffee berries varies enormously in that a single tree, depending on both its size and on climate and altitude, could produce enough berries to make between one and twelve pounds of dried beans a year.
(A) enormously in that a single tree, depending on both its size and on climate and altitude, could produce
(B) enormously in that a single tree, dependent on its size and also on climate and altitude, is able to produce
(C) enormously, because a single tree, depending on its size and on climate and altitude, is able to produce
(D) enormously, because a single tree, being dependent on its size, climate, and altitude, is capable of producing
(E) enormously, because a single tree, dependent both on its size as well as on climate and altitude, could produce
What is the difference between:
1) 'IN THAT' and 'BECAUSE'
2) 'DEPENDING' and 'DEPENDeNT' here
IMO:C

I am unable to answer your query though! :(

Is it C ?

because shows a reason why the yield varies and 'in that' seems to state something.

DEPENDING/DEPENDeNT - can't help with this one used POE between C D E.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

Dear Poster,

In option A Do we have comma after the word enormously..

A is not bad.. "in that a single tree" is correct .. Here 'in that' can be used to say 'where'
but this is language based on 'usage' I guess this is idiomatically correct.

I am with A if both in X and in Y or both X and Y rule is satisfied...
First take: 640 (50M, 27V) - RC needs 300% improvement
Second take: coming soon..
Regards,
HSPA.

(A) enormously in that a single tree, depending on both its size and on climate and altitude, could produce----- wrong idiom, it should be either on both X & Y or both on X & on Y
(B) enormously in that a single tree, dependent on its size and also on climate and altitude, is able to produce
(C) enormously, because a single tree, depending on its size and on climate and altitude, is able to produce

IMO C

In A, could produce indicates conditionality. Since a range is specified, it makes no sense to say could produce, blah blah. Also, the idiom, both its x and on y is not parallel

because introduces cause and effect relationship

The yield varies because of certain factors ( size, climate, etc)

I was able to find the answer based on 2 reasons- change of tense. We don't need could here since we dealing in simple present. Also, we don't need 'Both' here because it violates the parallel structure, which is maintained in option C and B (B is incorrect)

Choose C

I was not able to find the accurate answer to your question.
