In City Y last year, what was the ratio of the number of commuters who rode buses to the number of commuters who rode trains?

1. In City Y last year, 50,000 commuters rode trains and 48,000 commuters rode buses.
2. In City Y last year, if the number of commuters who rode trains had been 20% greater, the number of commuters who rode trains would have been 125% of the number of commuters who rode buses.

The OA is A. Statement 1 clearly provides the missing information to answer the question. I thought statement 2 was sufficient as well. Let me explain what I did.

If the # of commuters by train were x & of commuters by bus were y, then statement 2 is saying,

1.2x = 1.25y

from the above equation, we can get the ratio of commuters by bus to commuters by train.

y/x = 1.2/1.25 --> Sufficient.

Isn't the answer supposed to be D?

Am I doing something wrong?

Unless I am missing something which is possible I would go with D too. I must be missing a trick in the wording if its really A

Source is Princeton Review GMAT guide. Its a classroom question with no answer. I had it marked as A (I guess from what the instructor explained). Maybe it was my mistake marking it.

C all the way =P.... however 125% should be 2.25 not 1.25...
