city council members

Because city council members in small towns are intimately acquainted with the public they serve, they clearly have a more difficult job than city council members in larger cities.

The conclusion above rests on which of the following assumptions?

A, Working directly with members of the public is the one of the most challenging aspects of serving on a city council.

B, Managing the affairs of a large city requires a more significant time commitment than working directly with the public.

C, City council members in small towns are often related to a certain percentage of the population, making them intimately acquainted with the people they serve.

D, Residents of small towns often attend city council meetings to present their concerns.

E, City council members in large cities rarely engage the public directly.

Negating answer choice E will clearly weaken the argument.

Im surprised no one has mentioned A yet. I think this is a linking assumption, as a new piece of information is brought to the argument.

Because city council members in small towns are intimately acquainted with the public they serve, they clearly have a more difficult job than city council members in larger cities.

The argument is stating that being acquainted with the public makes their job more difficult.

What is OA?

IMO E

A does not say why serving on a council of a smaller city is tougher. It just says the job is tough.

B Not relevant info.

C We already know that council members in small towns are intimately acquainted. Redundant info

D Doesn't have relevance to the issue. Nowhere does it state that the more # of times residents attend meetings, the tougher the job becomes.

E wins as the others have been eliminated.
