A circle with the centre at coordinate (1, 5) and all the points on the circle positive (Circle in first Quadrant). What would be the maximum radius of the circle?

is it 5?

Another one:

A Tank filling tap rate is... it fills in 10 hrs. Another tap which can empty the tank takes 7 hrs to empty it completely. Initially two taps are opened and if after 1 hr filling tap is stopped then what is time taken to empty the tank?

Hi,
The center of circle is 1 unit from Y-axis. So, if the radius is more than 1, it will cut into 2nd quadrant. So, radius should be less than 1.

Hi,
Please post only one question in a thread so that it will be easy for people to access.
Coming to the question. Your question is n't clear enough. Did you mean to say that the tank is initially full?
If so, let the volume of tank be 10 units.
Rate of inlet = 1 units/hr
Rate of outlet = 10/7 units/hr
When both are opened for 1 hour, volume of water that remains in tank will be 10+1-(10/7) = 67/7 units
From then only outlet tap is open. So, time taken = (67/7)/(10/7) = 6.7 hours after 1st tap is closed.
