It is unclear whether chimpanzees are unique among nonhuman species in their ability to learn behaviors from one another, or if, when other animals are studied in as much depth, similar patterns would be found.
A. if, when other animals are studied in as much depth, similar patterns would be found
B. if other animals were studied with as much depth they would exhibit similar patterns
C. would similar patterns be found in other animals if they were studied in as much depth
D. whether similar patterns would be exhibited in other animals that were studied with as much depth
E. whether other animals would exhibit similar patterns if they were studied in as much depth

chimpanzees..
This topic has expert replies
if is incorrect and whether is the right word in its place. Thus between D and Esumanr84 wrote:It is unclear whether chimpanzees are unique among nonhuman species in their ability to learn behaviors from one another, or if, when other animals are studied in as much depth, similar patterns would be found.

E maintains the parallelism whether chimpanzees.... or whether other animals.... and is more concise than D
IMO E

Knowledge of Parallelism,Subjunctive mood & Idiom is tested.
whether establishes correct parallelism that why D,E remain.
in option D, I see two mistakes:
1) "that were studied with as much depth", absence of if in this portion indicates that animals have already been studied.
2) we don't "study with depth " instead we "study in depth", although presence of "as much" in D misdirects pretty well.
Although E anyway is most concise and clear in meaning.

Nice catch, a different way to look at the problem and I agree patterns don't exhibit but they need to be recognized.
