A charity collected $1,199 from donors during the last month. If each donor gave at least $20, what is the greatest possible number of donors the charity could have?

A) 45
B) 50
C) 55
D) 59
E) 65

x=integer => 20x=1,199 => x=59.95 => cancel 0.95 and x=59

I would start with elimination method here. E) is out because if you multiply 65 with $20 you get more than $1199.

If you multiply 59*20=1180 which means that some donors gave more than 20.

Since we are looking for the greatest possible number of donors, D is the correct answer

OA is D.

Solution: In order to have the greatest number of donors, each would have to give exactly the minimum. 1199/20 = 59, remainder 19. So you can give $20 to each of the 59 people and have 19 dollars to spread among them.
