Chances of making it to the Kellogg part time?

Hello

I would like to know, if based on my profile, I have a good chance at Kellogg for a part time. Appreciate the help!

Age: 32
GMAT: 620 (Q45,V32) and 630(Q46,V32)
Experience: I am a mechanical engineer with six years of experience, out of which the last two have been in a leadership role. I am from India.

Masters GPA: 3.2

I would also like to know, if I should take the gmat again or if it will hurt my chances. I am sure that I can increase my score by atleast 50-60 points.

Hi,

Based on the information you shared I would encourage you to retake the GMAT. If you feel you can increase your score then it's worth the effort. The last thing you want is to get dinged from the program and regret not retaking the exam.

Many thanks for your reply. I want to definitely retake the test as I am confident of the increase in the score, but my hesitation stems from my thought that the graduate schools may look negatively at three attempts on the GMAT? Would this be true or would they be more forgiving, if the increase in the score was more in the range of 50-60 points? Thanks again for all the help and looking forward to hearing from you.

The general rule of thumb is 3 tries on the GMAT. After 3 attempts it can raise some red flags, especially if a score goes down or stays stagnant. I say go for it!

Thanks Stacey. I am planning to take the GMAT in the next month or two. I am hoping that crossing the 700+ barrier would enhance my chances at Kellogg.

Thank you for your advice on retaking the GMAT. I retook it yesterday and got a 710. I am hoping to apply to Booth and Kellogg for their 2013 winter evening Part time MBA program. I hope this should be a more competitive score. My biggest concern is that in the application for Booth, they ask how many times I have taken the GMAT. I am hoping that me taking it thrice is not a show stopper!. What are your thoughts? Do you think that with the new score I stand a good chance? Looking forward to hearing from you and thanks again for all the help!

I am so happy to hear that you improved your score! Congratulations! This new score makes you a more competitive candidate.

I really don't think the fact that you took the GMAT three times is a deal breaker. As I stated in an earlier post, the general rule of thumb is no more than three times. It's actually quite rare that someone takes the exam just once these days - two to three times is perfectly normal.
