I figured I'd give this forum a shot after all my lurking around the past few days.
I applied to H/S/W/Tuck/Booth/Haas
25/white/male/first generation college student (although other than listing that, i never mentioned in essays)
My profile is pretty basic and nothing to sqawk about compared to the sharks who went went to an ivy. did bb for 2 years then pe.
so in terms of undergrad, went to a pretty decent state school (washington).
graduated in three years with a triple major (3.74 gpa), although all non quant in nature. also took several (9, to be exact) quant (acct, calc, stats, fin) classes at local cc, earned all As.
had a few good ecs in college, president of an honor society, TA for a few classes, honors program which culminated in three theses( earned As), research assistant for a few years, etc.
Went to London for my masters in 2006, graduated in 2007.
Worked in a small international trade firm since June 07, but not much in the way of promotions because of its size.
Outside of work, I started a non-profit (around 2006), as well as teaching microfinance to high school students and serve on the alumni board for one of my majors.
oh, GMAT was 760.
I have good numbers I suppose but it seems that a fickle adcom would have no trouble turning me away with my non-target college and lack of blue chip experience, or anything which just feels them the wrong way. With the way people are posting, I may have to apply next year as well!
